Today, I’m super excited to share photos of one ridiculously adorable babe (with an amazing name!), Hendrik. This little dude sneakily learned not just to sit, but also to *crawl* before his first photo session, which ensured all the grownups were kept on their toes, continuously scooching him back on the bed. (Not exactly what his momma and I had planned when we discussed his session. It’s like babies don’t care about what the grownups want, or something 😉 )
I’m feeling a bit giddy to share Miss Leah’s newborn session with you…. partially, because, well, she is a perfect new little human (and I got to spend a good part of a day last week cooing and rocking her to sleep)…..
…and partially because I absolutely adore her family, who I met a few years ago when Leah’s big sister had her own newborn session. When I asked how big sister Vanessa was adapting to her new role, the answer was, “Fine! As long as we introduce Leah as *her* baby.” [Read more…]
I met D a few years back when he called me in a panic for a last-second headshot. He assured me that it would be next to impossible to get a good photo of him, but I’m never convinced of that for a second. During the shoot, we ended talking about his beloved partner, K, and he was so, happy, relaxed, and at ease as he talked about her that we ended up with a great portrait, no problem. So we checked that off the list.
However! Being such a romantic, I was dying to meet his lovely sounding person, and so for Christmas I suggested he buy her a couples photo session. ‘Cause he’s so awesome he recognized what a great idea it was 😉 And so, here’s a glimpse of this stunning couple, who just radiates love…..
I’m so excited to share this session…. a darling family, gorgeous evening light, and the most precocious little subject, Miss Ismae, who began the shoot with red feathers in her curls, and part-way through was convinced to switch to pigtails. But the biggest reason this shoot fills me with joy? Seeing my dearest friend in her role of momma and partner.
Ismae’s mom and I met at the age of sixteen, and have been swirling in and out of one another’s orbit ever since. In high school I recall falling apart into absurd laughter on the kitchen floor, mapping out our entangled web of friendships, getting in trouble in art class, and her introducing me to some of her favorite Buddhist ideas. From prom dress shopping and summer bike rides to whole foods, from visiting her in college in Portland, Oregon, to making a care package for a beloved author*, from living as close as one room apart as roommates in Cambridgeport to mailing letters to her in Nepal, we have known one another though so many years and so many changes. She has always impressed me with her beauty and intelligence, and I hope this session shows her how radiantly I see her. For the one formerly known as “Button”, thank you for entrusting me with the honor of capturing you three.

I could count up the amount of times I’ve photographed this family, but I’d rather spend the time telling you about how much I adore them. A few years ago, I met them when Sullivan was just a sleepy, smiley little newborn with his own mini guitar. And now, Estelle is here, and has transformed them into the fabulous quad below….. Ack! You guys! I’m back with this super adorable, sweet & fun family. But before we get to them, I gotta remind you about Sid… I photographed him as a teeny newborn peanut, and his family and I all had so much fun together they decided to upgrade to my First Year Package. Which makes me super happy, especially because, well you’ll get a pretty good idea when you check out Siddharth’s smile, below….. [Read more…]
Hi Everyone! Here’s a brand new little guy for you to meet……. it’s Milo!
95% of the time I talk to pregnant or brand-new mommas about their little one’s newborn session, they say something to me like, “But I don’t have to be in the photos, right?”No. Of course you don’t. But I am 100% sure that despite how exhausted, and physically not photogenic you may feel, I will be able to capture your beauty following the most miraculous thing your body has ever done: grow a brand new person! Hello, dearest ones,
First of all, Happy Valentine’s Day! This has long been my absolute favorite holiday – I love the reminder and encouragement to reach out and tell my loves that they are so very loved and appreciated by me.Now, how is everyone doing out there? Are you all hanging in there? Because living in the United States these days is feeling really, really complicated. I’ve been thinking about the position I am in as a small business owner-momma and also as, well, a human. On one hand, the idea of alienating a current or potential family from hiring me as their photographer is a scary prospect. However, I really can’t stay quiet about the many hateful and intolerant acts that are happening right now and neither can Willow Baby Studios. So today, I want to announce very clearly that Willow Baby Studios welcomes all people of any race, belief, family makeup, gender, religion or orientation. I am very aware that my pricing structure means I cater exclusively to middle & upper class families. As someone who has been part of the lower class for most of my life, creating this model was very painful for me. Throughout the five-ish years I’ve been in business I have made many adjustments and thoughtful calculations, and have reached a point of acceptance about my pricing, as much as I wish it could be more financially inclusive. I need to add here that if you fall in love with my photography but it is cost prohibitive, please reach out. I have set up bartering and payment plans for families before and I would be happy to discuss those options with you. I also maintain a list of interested people for personal projects or portfolio building, which always includes some thank you goodies for offering your time.Inclusiveness and tolerance, lack of judgement and open mindedness, empathy and love are all very very essential ideas to me. If my words here resonate with you, please reach out – I have a feeling that I should take your photograph soon.
With so much love,
To the left you’ll see a (fairly) recent photo of my favorite person/adorable Valentine, consulting the wisdom of the magic 8 ball.
