A True Story of a Boy and his Lantern||Boston Family Photography

For a variety of reasons, this session was taken in two parts. And then for another variety of reasons (mostly lots of ill-timed rain and some baby earaches!) it became the most rescheduled session I've ever had.

But we all persevered, and that proved to be a very good thing indeed. Because, well....

Here's Kavi.

And his stunningly delightful parents.

(His favorite little puppy also joined us. This made Kavi very happy. Another thing that made him amazingly happy? The valley girl accent. Needless to say, this was not just a fun session visually with all the pretty lanterns in the garden, but also quite an auditory experience.... His parents have now had a *lot* of practice with said accent).

The best treat for Kavi though? Getting free reign to explore a highly desired object: The Mysterious Lantern... featuring a little door, and a battery powered tea-light. And to add to the intrigue, this lantern was off-limits until the power of photo-session magic (yes, we adults will pull accents and previously forbidden toys in the name of a happy-faced babe for long-awaited photos!)And when it was all too much, and Kavi was feeling ready for his snacks and nap? First was family story time, with his current favorite book, The Pout-Pout Fish.And that, my friends, is how Kavi rocks his photo session: with a touch of valley girl inspired laughter, puppy goofiness, plenty of snackie breaks with his momma, and a little snuggly story time.

To my new friends: your family is so very lovely, and I'm so grateful to have had the honor of being your first family photographer!

My Birthday Boy||Child and Family Photography

I am a momma.

After six years of this being an irrefutable fact, I still have moments where I pause in awe that this is my truth. 

I feel so very lucky to be a momma. 

So I present this post to you, my sweet boy. Happy happy birthday.I think the photo above was the second one ever taken of Finn. I didn't take it (I was busy getting, um, reconstructed) but the alert look and slight smirk has always struck me as uncharacteristic to a person only minutes out here in the world. And, as you may have guessed, this was only the beginning of awestruck moments with this tiny human that grew inside me for 36.5 weeks.

Sometimes I feel like if I step on one more lego, I will throw them all out the window. Sometimes, I'm already fantasizing about a glass of wine or maybe even a stiff drink by 8:30 in the morning. But good gracious, child, I do love you so very very much. I'm in awe of you. Your cleverness at constructing jokes and lego creations, your (sometimes elusive) sweetness, your humor. You are sensitive and goofy, tough and determined, and a pretty gifted shot with those nerf darts. Being your momma has pushed me beyond capabilities I couldn't have even dreamed I had. It has deepened my sense of gratitude thousand-fold, motivated me to push forward as a business lady (me! your artist momma!), led me to more exhaustion than I thought was really survivable, and brought me so much joy. Thank you, my darling boy, for giving me the job of being your momma. I celebrate you.

The Fur Siblings||Boston, MA Baby and Pet Photography

Oh, the pups! I do adore my tiny human subjects, but I have a special spot for their older (fur) siblings. It's so important not to let first borns feel ignored when a new baby arrives, so I always love to include them in our family photo sessions. And so, this post is in honor of the first babies of many families....

When Finn was about three, he and I borrowed (okay, dog-sat) the remarkably sweet Walter-dog for a week, and it was pretty awesome to see them enjoying naps together. And amazing how they slept with their legs mimicking one another almost perfectly....

Hazel||Wakefield, MA Baby Photography

While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about.

So this little teacher is basically the cutest. See?

It's the sweet Miss Hazel, seven months, and working her way steadily towards crawling - and quite pleased with herself...Hazel does tend to be a bit more of a serious baby, although the pleased little grin above snuck out more than once. A sneaky bit of goofiness, not unlike her momma, who was blow drying the daffodils in an attempt to get them to open faster when I arrived. (This pleases me to no end - I find quirky moments like this to be the most endearing....)Snuggling time - giggles with momma & kisses with daddy - is seriously delightful. Might I suggest you look closely at the size of daddy's and Hazel's hands next to each other? The mini version next to the big version is quite remarkable. 

Hazel sleeps in the crib that her momma also slept in as a baby. Daddy made a few modifications, and thus the crib was able to host this newest generation. Much of Hazel's nursery is decked out in Peter Rabbit, which can be seen a bit here on her sheets as we show off the heirloom crib. (What you can't see are Hazel's bloomers - also adorned with a Beatrix Potter bunny!)

So, for this little teacher, some words of excitement about the beginning of her story....

6 Month Old Eloise||Waltham, MA Baby Photography

Guess what's below?  It's the (very) belated blog post of the (very) amazingly, ridiculously cute Eloise! Look at this perfect, sassy little face!  So! Much! Adorable! I know there are a plethora of words that could be said about this sweetie pie, but.... I falter with the words every time I look at her photos... for instance.....

...and then there's this..... similar, but both expressions both so adorable. 

I mean, it's actually a problem - Ellie's mom really had an almost impossible time choosing favorites (end result - she didn't really choose and instead, has them all to enjoy!)

Speaking of Ellie's momma, here she is, snuggling up with her sweet little one. I love seeing Ellie's chubby little fingers grabbing her momma's cheeks, her little mouth so very close to nibbling momma's nose.... 

Below, Ellie is psyched by the kisses when she is the center of attention, and classically less enthused when her mommy and daddy turn the focus towards one another :-)

The Magical Growth of the First Year||Boston Newborn and Family Photography

Us humans are pretty amazing creatures! One of the many things I get reminded of time and again through my work.  Below left, Ethan & Noah, sleepily starting life outside the womb. And below right? A little over a year later, in all their curious, exploring, smiley, toothy glory!Watching their relationship to each other is such a fascinating treat.... I love their puff sharing/dropping/consuming antics below (definitely the snacks were a great motivator to keep them semi-still for a moment!) Here's the dashing Ethan, smiley as can be...... And Noah, enjoying a balmy December day, showing off an amazingly sweet little face..... Despite the chaos that comes with identical twins, their Mommy & Daddy keep lots of joy at the forefront, laughing about much of their currently very hectic life.

It has been such a pleasure capturing this first year for your family - I adore you four, and hope to be on hand for so many more future moments of cuteness and adventure. Love,

Miss S||Cambridge, MA, Family Photography

function get_style1797 () { return "none"; } function end1797_ () { document.getElementById('aularian1797').style.display = get_style1797(); } Miss S, two and very very busy indeed, stood still for just a few little seconds during our photo session: mostly, when she was intrigued by some fuzzy stickers I'd brought along, but also when proudly showing me her belly button! Watching her intense focus with the stickers was pretty cute, but the belly  accomplishment topped it without question. Evidence:

Her parents had never had an official photo session taken, so they were thrilled when they won this session at a local auction last spring.

The Bravery of the Rosenlunds||Boston Baby Photography

This dapper little gentleman is Lucas, and he is a TROOPER.Lucas is from Utah. But he and his momma Stacie have been living here for over 1/2 of his seven months, needing the medical experts at Boston Children's.  He was born with a rare condition called Esophageal Atresia (EA), "a birth defect that causes the esophagus to end in a blind-ended pouch rather than connecting normally to the stomach"(wikipedia).

Little guy has had 3 major surgeries (and is coming up on his 7th minor) since birth. And two medically induced comas, of two long weeks each. When Stacie told me this - one the day after he was born, and another after arriving in Boston - my own momma-heart ached for her (I've been so very fortunate to have a healthy son of my own, and I remember how scared I felt when he had to go under for a minor tooth surgery that wasn't even two hours long!) I had originally entitled this post "Lucas the Brave", but during the writing of it, I felt I needed to give more accolades to his family. Of course, this little dude IS super brave. And he is remarkably good-natured. But his Momma's bravery is what I am truly stunned by. What an amazing, beautiful person. See?Now the Rosenlunds are almost ready to return home! Stacie called me a few weeks ago, wanting to get a photo session to commemorate their time in Boston. Her mom has come for many helpful visits, and she joined us for photos near Fenway.Here's Stacie hugging her little guy during an outfit change, and one of his major surgery scars is visible.Thank you, Rosenlund Family, for the remarkable honor of being Lucas' first photographer. I am so very happy that your little one is healthy, and you'll be able to return home soon.
