Here's Annabelle: This gorgeous and alert little cutie was a big three weeks old at the time of her newborn session.  A common citation in the newborn photography world is "within 14 days", being the time by which to take newborn-style photographs.  However, over the years I have received numerous calls from concerned parents that were worried they missed the opportunity to capture the newborn stage - and I've always extended the newborn deadline through to six weeks, sometimes even 7 or 8.  I love having another example of how newborn little ones still look for quite some time, and I maintain that there is *never* a bad time to have photos taken of your baby!  Every day carries minute changes, and each moment in time is perfect and challenging in its own way.

There are so many amazing things about brand new people, and the tiny "furs" that covers their shoulders is one that I find especially endearing:

Little sweetie clearly had no trouble snoozing once we convinced her it was a great time to take a nap.  Her dreams seemed quite peaceful......

And after a quick snack break Annabelle went right back to sleep.

Hanging out with her adoring Daddy proved quite relaxing....

...and being in Mommy's calming presence was decidedly a great way to keep the nap going as well....

The Darling Miss Hadley!||Boston Baby Photography

Meet Hadley! Her parents have been blessed with six months of amazing cuteness:

Hadley is a huge fan of her fingers, her toes, her pink kitty, and songs about ducks.

Naturally, Hadley's doting mommy and daddy can't get enough snuggles and giggles in with her.  And Hadley's dad has the most permanent document of his love for her -  literally.

Hadley, her footprints and her birth date, all inked onto Daddy. How gorgeous and sweet is that tattoo?

This sweet girl also has a few fur siblings, Slice, the cat (not cooperative) and pooch Cece.

Hadley and Cece are still really figuring out their relationship. Such a lovely afternoon with this little sweetie and her family.

Six Weeks of Owen||Boston newborn photographer travels

Meet Owen: This little darling happens to be a San Francisco native, and I happen to be the lucky photographer that traveled there to photograph him.  At six weeks, Owen was a tad bit older than most of my newborn subjects, but it was a glorious time to capture him!  He'd just begun his social smiling, and cooing at him until a smile was coaxed out resulted in just about the best reward ever.

Being around for a few days resulted in a wider array of photos than is possible during a standard session.  I was able to capture a more comprehensive set of Owen moments, including the cuteness that was his bath time:

It was quite a treat to watch his mommy, a dear friend of mine, as she settled into motherhood.  Her giant love for her tiny boy radiated off her, making her more beautiful than ever.

Owen's daddy was similarly smitten with his son...

We went to the beautiful area around Fort Mason, in order to capture family photos where Owen's parents got engaged.

While Owen was in the middle of his snack break near Fort Mason, a ladybug came to visit. A most auspicious bit of serendipity indeed.I have so much love and happiness for this amazing trio!  Owen is so lucky to be born to such vibrant, loving parents, and I know his parents feel beyond blessed to have this perfect little boy as their son.

Sweet Eloise || Newborn photography, Waltham, MA

Many years ago, her parents met while jumping on trampolines!  And now they are bringing that same enthusiasm, joy and energy to their adorable little bundle - Miss Elosie.

Little darling, at just 7 days old, gave me some soulful stares before easily drifting off to sleep.  Her mom is a lover of bright colors, so we played around with my various swaddles & headbands for awhile, the vibrant blues and pinks playing beautifully against Ellie's skin.  

We then had her don a very special vintage bonnet, that her mom had worn home from the hospital as a newborn.  I love when grandmas save these treasures and pull them out for the photo session - such a wonderful way to connect generations.

During the family part of their session, we discussed how they were living the dream - their gratitude is deep, which made them even more of a delight to photograph.

Chilly winds, warm bath....

With enough snow to rival what I remember from wild winters of my childhood in Vermont, and a wind chill in the negatives, there was really only one reasonable place to take photographs today (indoors).  And only one logical subject: My sweet little guy, almost five, who always protests his bath time and yet never wants to get out once he's started...

One of his favorite tub games is "Pizza shop", wherein he fills a little cup with water, and then one of those tiny sponges that you get in a set of 6 dissolvable capsules - in this case, trains and common creatures - and then hands me a "box" of pizza.

I take one cup off the top of another, and see my "pizza" (water) and then act shocked and dismayed that there is a spongey squirrel or caboose in it. This cracks him up beyond reason, and we do it over, and over, and over again.  Until one time I call to order my pizza and he informs me "the phone isn't working because the electricity is out" after which he flips the drain switch up and down a few times and declares it fixed.

Here's to bath time joy, and after-bath snuggles.... to five year old silliness and imagination.... to dreading more snow days, yet knowing when they come I will find plenty of goodness in another day with my little guy.

A Dalliance with the Daffodils | Gorgeous Family Photography, Arlington, MA

I'll start off by saying that I love this family!  I had the privilege of photographing the family at baby Emily's newborn session last August (see that adorable-ness here) and by last winter, her momma was already scheming up this spring's family portrait session!  Emily's dad is in the know about some gorgeous fields of daffodils, so we all waited, (somewhat) patiently, until a weekend when most of them were at their peak.  Then Emily, her big sister Maddie, and their parents put on their Easter finest and bravely ventured out into a rather wet, tick-infested* field.  Maddie, a classic 3 year old, had smiles and grumpy faces galore - loving the photo session one minute, completely over it the next.  Emily had a great time showing off her waving skills, and momma and daddy were ever patient and adventurous.  They even broke into a great silly dance to entertain Emily while we took some solo photos of her.  I had such a fun morning with you all!  Enjoy your sneak peak! *we found this out mid-session, after we easily spotted two ticks on dad's khaki pants.  Luckily no one was bit!

Baby Gabriella

Super cutie Gabriella fought off sleep for quite awhile, requesting lots of nursing time with Mommy, rocking time with Daddy, and snuggle time with Grandma.  Which was absolutely fine, because it gave me time to capture more of this sweet and good-natured family interacting.  Gabriella's daddy definitely won - three times over!! - the "Not Freaking Out When Getting Peed on Award".  Grandma and Mommy couldn't stop laughing at him, as he calmly decided he should probably go change.  When Gabriella finally went so sleep, she rewarded us with such adorable squishy lips and tiny fingers curled just so, that it was well worth the wait. Gabriella's Mommy's native language is Spanish, and so this lucky little sweetie we be raised bilingual.  (I've always thought that is one of the nicest gifts you can give a child!)

Baby C | Adorable Baby & Family Photography - Medford, MA

Baby C here is the perfect reason to return to blogging after my long winter hiatus!  This four month old cutie had smiles galore for his momma, his dada, and me, the doting photographer.  He was incredibly good-natured for his session, moving from Nantucket basket to wooden crate to tummy time was ease.  He couldn't get enough of naked (well, diapered) time, and showed off more smiles then I would have thought possible while playing on his parent's bed!  Even as he was clearly worn out near the end of our session, Baby C  remained a happy little guy, although the smiles did become sleepier.  I'm so happy to have spent the morning with you three - what a lovely and smiley family you are!

Brooklyn & her Brothers | Gorgeous Family & Newborn Photos Reading, MA

Brooklyn's momma brought me coffee almost before I'd finished setting up for our session.  As a third-time mother, she had an amazingly calm demeanor as we moved from newborn photos to a few outdoor shots of her with her brand new daughter, even as her boys, 5 and 7, dashed around, needing direction and, um, re-direction as she prepped them for the family part of the session.  As her sons mussed their hair, broke shoelaces, and debated outfit choices, she quickly set about a last minute ironing project.  Meanwhile, her younger son offered me a piece of gum, proving that good manners and hosting skills are being well fostered at this house :-)  Brooklyn's dad had a similar calm, and together both parents were quite humorous and good-natured as the boys chased each other around the field where I was taking the family photos.  While adorable little Brooklyn was the impetus for this photo session, her two older brothers stole the show a bit - their playing and energy was infectious, and their sweetness quite evident - oldest brother helped his mom up from where she was sitting, and younger brother grabbed my hand as we walked back to their house.   I am overjoyed for Brooklyn to be part of such a loving, sweet, and fun family! The stack of clothing options ranged from tiny pink fleece-lined boots, to a mermaid costume, to a mini vest, made out of faux fur, to mommy's 1st communion dress, passed down.  The model intended for these, 3-month old Emma, would prove to be quite a sport about wearing them!  At times, she took her job rather seriously, refusing to crack a smile even for her squeaky Sophie the giraffe.  Her parents, though, devoted to capturing their little one's sweet and smiley personality, pulled out all the stops.  And in the end, Emma rocked her photo shoot, proving that the cutest mermaid is ready for her first Halloween!
